The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing mounted, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series, which are mostly sleeve bearing mounted. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it has a special, larger impeller with several blades, which leads to more power and slightly better throttle response. It is important with the ball bearing-mounted turbochargers that they do not receive too much oil pressure. For this reason, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used for the oil feed. A ball bearing turbo responds approximately 400-500 rpm earlier than a sleeve bearing turbo.
