The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, precision balanced, and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series, which are mostly journal bearing. The GTX series differs from the standard GT in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades, which results in higher power and slightly better response. It is important with ball bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used on the oil feed. A ball-bearing turbo responds approximately 400-500 rpm earlier than a journal bearing one.
