Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufacturers that subjects the turbos to several qualification tests, which means you always receive a top product. The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, finely balanced and oil and water cooled. There is also the older generation T series which are mostly on plain bearings. The GTX series differs from the normal GT, in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades which leads to more power and slightly better response. It is important with the ball bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with 0.9mm bore is used at the oil inlet. A ball bearing turbo responds approx. 400-500 rpm earlier than a plain bearing turbo.
