Description:

Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufacturers that subjects the turbos to several qualification tests, meaning you always get a top product. A 1000-hour durability test is carried out on an engine in a Garrett engineering laboratory, thrust bearing test, maximum tolerance of the bearing system is checked as well as material fatigue, a vibration test is performed, etc.

The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing mounted, finely balanced, and oil- and water-cooled. There is still the older generation T series which are mostly plain bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades, which leads to more power and somewhat better response. It is important that the ball-bearing turbochargers do not get too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used for the oil inlet. A ball bearing turbo responds approximately 400-500 rpm earlier than a plain bearing turbo.
