Description:

Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufacturers that subjects its turbos to several qualification tests, meaning you always get a top-quality product. Among other things, a 1000-hour durability test is carried out on an engine in a Garrett engineering laboratory, thrust bearing tests, the maximum tolerance of the bearing system is checked, as well as material fatigue, a vibration test is performed, etc.

The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series which are mostly plain bearing. The GTX series differs from the regular GT in that it has a special, larger impeller wheel with multiple blades, leading to more power and slightly better response. It is important with the ball-bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. This is why an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used in the oil feed. A ball bearing turbo responds approximately 400-500 rpm earlier than a plain bearing turbo.
