Stahlflex hoses: Braking performance and safety for your vehicle

Why switch to steel-braided hoses? The advantages at a glance

Conventional rubber brake lines become porous over time, absorb water, and expand significantly under high pressure—such as during an emergency stop. The result is a spongy feel in the brake pedal and an extended stopping distance.

Stahlflex hoses solve this problem thanks to their intelligent layered construction: An inner hose made of high-quality PTFE (Teflon) is wrapped in a robust braid of stainless steel wire.

  • Consistent Bite Point: Since the stainless steel braiding does not expand even under extreme pressure and at the highest temperatures, the bite point on the brake lever or pedal remains precise and crisp at all times.

  • Shorter stopping distance: Braking force is transmitted directly to the brake calipers without delay. In an emergency, this can save valuable meters.

Anyone who drives their vehicle in a sporty manner, participates in track days, or pushes the limits on the racetrack knows the problem: After just a few laps, confidence in the brakes begins to wane. The thermal stress during intense racing is extreme—brake rotors and pads glow red-hot, and the enormous heat is transferred directly to the brake fluid and brake lines.

This is where OEM rubber lines immediately reach their limits:

  • The dangerous “dough effect”: The extreme heat causes the rubber in stock hoses to soften and become extremely stretchy. If you then slam on the brakes before a turn, some of the hydraulic pressure is lost because the rubber hoses inflate like a balloon.

  • The pedal sinks through: The brake pedal feels spongy and soft, and the pedal travel gets longer and longer (known as vapor lock or brake fade). In the worst case, the pedal can be pressed all the way down to the floor panel with almost no noticeable resistance.
