In modern engine design, performance modifications, and especially in professional motorsports, the continuous monitoring of exhaust-side thermodynamic parameters is a critical factor for the operational safety and efficiency of the entire system. Our product category for probes and sensors in exhaust gas technology offers high-precision system solutions for real-time exhaust gas monitoring.
From compact exhaust gas temperature (EGT) gauge kits to high-temperature-resistant sensors, our components cover the entire spectrum to keep engines operating within their optimal performance window.
In motorsports and for street-legal performance projects, an ECU tune involves walking a fine line between maximum power output, mechanical durability, and legal requirements:
Protection against thermal overload: An uncontrolled rise in exhaust gas temperature (EGT) immediately signals a thermal overload. If temperatures exceed critical limits, irreversible structural damage to the material may occur. The direct consequences include melting of the catalytic converter honeycomb, cracks in the exhaust manifold, and structural damage to the sensitive turbine impeller of the turbocharger. A precise Type K probe in the exhaust stream is therefore the most important safeguard against destructive lean-burn conditions.
Prevention of excessive fuel enrichment and compliance with emissions testing: To artificially lower exhaust temperatures, many ECU tunes tend to result in extreme fuel enrichment (high fuel excess). However, this has serious drawbacks: In addition to unburned fuel, which can wash away the oil film on the cylinder walls, carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions increase dramatically. The vehicle loses its type approval and will inevitably fail the mandatory emissions test (AU).
The goal of measurement technology: Only by using high-precision probes can the engine be tuned exactly so that it runs lean and clean enough to pass the emissions test without any problems, while the exhaust gas temperature under full load is precisely maintained below the critical material melting point.
Our digital display systems process sensor signals in real time and, thanks to high-contrast LED displays, offer latency-free readability in the cockpit—essential for quick reactions on the racetrack.
Flexible power supply: Universally compatible with 12V or 24V vehicle electrical systems.
Compact installation dimensions: Standardized housing geometries for discreet integration into instrument panels, center consoles, or A-pillars.
Our sensors are primarily designed as Type K (NiCr-Ni) sheathed thermocouples and are specifically engineered for the extreme pulsating pressure changes and high-frequency vibrations in the exhaust manifolds of turbocharged engines.
Premium INCONEL material: Probe tubes made from this high-temperature-resistant nickel-chromium-based alloy guarantee oxidation resistance and microstructural stability at continuous operating temperatures of up to 1200°C.
Increased safety margins: With a nominal diameter of 3 mm, the probes offer the optimal balance between a short thermal half-life (fast response time for precise measurements) and high fracture resistance against mechanical breakage.
Glass-fiber wiring suitable for thermocouples: Consistent avoidance of thermally unstable silicone cables. Our sensors feature stainless-steel-sheathed glass-fiber wires up to 3 meters long that can withstand ambient temperatures of up to 400°C in areas close to the engine.
For gas-tight and vibration-isolated integration of the probes into the exhaust gas stream, we offer a comprehensive range of installation components:
Clamp and cutting ring fittings: Precisely fitting fittings (e.g., M8 x 1.0 or 1/8-inch NPT) made of stainless steel for 3mm probes to ensure exact adjustment of the insertion depth.
Specific thermocouple connectors: Type K connector sets for error-free signal extension without distorting the thermocouple voltage.
Industry standard for motorsports: Exclusive use of durable materials such as INCONEL and glass fiber insulation.
Universal compatibility: The probes are suitable as OEM replacement parts for our displays as well as for all common EGT measurement systems and data loggers with a 3-mm ferrule.
Reliable signal transmission: Minimization of measurement tolerances through precisely matched components (sensors, connectors, displays).
