In engines with increased power output and under high sustained thermal loads, the stock cooling system often reaches its limits. An external oil cooler with DASH 8 connections (AN8) ensures a targeted reduction in engine oil temperature by up to 40 °C. Since engine oil not only serves to lubricate but also plays a key role in heat dissipation from highly stressed components such as piston crowns, maintaining the optimal temperature range is essential.
By lowering the peak oil temperature, the viscosity of the lubricant remains stable. This prevents the lubricating film from breaking down under full load and ensures constant oil pressure. In addition, a controlled operating temperature protects the engine’s elastic seals from thermal hardening and premature wear.
The DASH system (Dash Size / AN – Army-Navy Standard) defines standardized thread sizes and hose diameters for racing and performance-oriented vehicle construction. DASH 8 corresponds to an inner hose diameter of approximately 11.1 mm (thread: 3/4 - 16 UNF / JIC 37°).

The centerpiece of the installation is the in-house developed oil cooler adapter flange with an integrated thermostat. This valve diverts the engine oil to the external cooler only once the defined operating temperature (e.g., 80 °C) has been reached. During the warm-up phase, the oil circulates exclusively within the engine’s internal circuit to prevent rapid wear caused by cold starts.
