The perfect balance: Why the 200-CPI is the tuning standard

The configuration with 200 CPI per square inch offers the optimal compromise for modified vehicles compared to restrictive stock catalysts (which often operate at 400 or 600 cpsi):

• Noticeable reduction in backpressure: The free cross-section in the exhaust pipe is significantly increased. The exhaust gases flow out noticeably faster, which massively relieves the turbocharger both mechanically and thermally and lowers the exhaust gas temperature (EGT).

• Optimized response: The significantly reduced backpressure immediately after the turbine improves the engine’s gas exchange. The turbocharger responds noticeably sooner (better spool-up), resulting in a more dynamic torque curve.

• Rich sound: In addition to the pure performance benefits, the 200-CPI structure ensures a sporty and robust sound character for the exhaust system, without producing an unpleasant roar during everyday driving.

A common misconception in the tuning scene is that reducing the number of cells automatically means failing the emissions test (AU). Our 200-cell metal cores are designed for long-term use under high loads. Unlike brittle OEM ceramic catalysts, which tend to break or melt when exposed to increased power or heat, the wound and specially soldered metal matrix withstands harsh mechanical vibrations and high thermal loads of well over 950 degrees Celsius without any problems.

A single 200-CPI monolith covers a power range of up to approx. 450 hp. For high-performance projects (such as highly tuned 1.8T, 2.0 TFSI, or twin-turbocharged VR6 / R32 conversions), the flow rate can be easily doubled by arranging two catalysts in parallel in a dual-flow system.
