Flywheels

Flywheels

Flywheels are components of the powertrain and serve to dampen vibrations. The necessity of 1.8T Flywheels is due to the unevenness with which torsional vibrations affect the vehicle. The number of cylinders also plays a role – the more there are, the smoother the engine runs. To deliver a smoother driving experience, the flywheel is mounted at the end of the crankshaft, where it compensates for these irregular vibrations – and for other practical reasons as well: By storing the energy generated by the engine, the vehicle can, for example, bridge idle cycles and act as an energy source precisely when the engine does not, such as at dead centers.

A flywheel thus ensures smoother, more consistent operation of the car. Since this round component is constantly in motion, our online shop offers only high-quality parts. Dynamically balanced and made from tested steel, our flywheels are the perfect fit for your vehicle. Single-mass flywheels offer the advantage of having less mass due to their lower weight and are virtually indestructible. However, drivers must be prepared for the well-known “flywheel rattle,” which sets certain parts in motion and thus creates a rattling sound due to vibrations. The alternative is the ZMS – the dual-mass flywheel, which you can, of course, also find in our selection for your vehicle.

The dual-mass flywheel

The use of the dual-mass flywheel has already become almost the established standard and is featured in most modern vehicles. To keep the vibrations generated by the engine away from the transmission, this flywheel must always be precisely matched to the vehicle model – you can easily find information about each item in the product description.

The special feature of the ZMS: As the name suggests, it consists of two masses connected by a Clutch to each other. They are referred to as the primary and secondary flywheels and offer maximum performance thanks to their internal design, which features a smooth clutch and slide bearings! A system that has proven itself by dampening excessive vibrations. However, before purchasing a new 1.8T flywheel, be sure to check for compatibility to avoid causing damage.

Recognizing Symptoms of a Malfunction

To guarantee optimal service life, we offer only 1.8T flywheels that meet the required standards. A4, Audi S3, or Golf 4 – simply compare your vehicle model with the flywheel description. But when should you consider a new flywheel? It’s best to be able to recognize the symptoms of a defect quickly:

  • Smells of burning are noticeable inside the vehicle
  • The engine RPM does not match the speed
  • The clutch pedal emits vibrations
  • Unusual, loud noises when operating the clutch
  • Strange noises occur when shifting gears

Causes of these issues can include, for example, chronically driving at too low an RPM or persistent engine overheating – a sensible driving style therefore remains the best choice for ensuring a long service life for the components.
