The 1.4 TSI stands for the American designation Twincharged Stratified Injection, meaning a gasoline engine with direct injection that is supercharged by two superchargers or an exhaust gas turbocharger. The first supercharger is the so-called compressor, which is responsible for the air in the lower RPM range and compresses the intake air. At higher RPMs, the second supercharger – the turbocharger – kicks in, which then handles the engine’s supercharging on its own at a certain RPM.
