Turbocharger
The heart of the 1.8T, alongside the engine, is the turbocharger. We offer various turbocharger upgrade such as the K04-015 with a larger compressor wheel, turbine wheel, and reinforced turbo actuator plug and play, because weaker actuators can no longer maintain boost pressure above a certain level and begin to flutter, so stronger actuators are then required. As a rule of thumb, from an opening pressure of 0.5 bar, the actuator can achieve a holding pressure of approx. 1.3 bar, and after that it begins to flutter. This makes a maximum of 300 hp possible. The turbocharger differs only slightly visually from the original. We carry original Borgwarner units as well as our own brand “Turbo-parts.de,” which we have now been successfully distributing for over 13 years. These are all precision-balanced and have a long service life. To ensure that the turbocharger also receives enough exhaust gases, a correspondingly large exhaust manifold is required. Here we also have upgrade manifolds with a larger pipe cross-section that are simply exchanged for the original manifold. For conversions with universal turbochargers, e.g. GT28 turbo or GT30 etc., a manifold is required that has the appropriate T25 or T3 flange; we also carry these in our range. If your exhaust housing for your original turbo or upgrade turbo is cracked/defective, you can also purchase it from us.
A turbocharger alone is not enough. Of course, the surrounding parts must also be replaced so that the optimal performance can be extracted from the engine.
Exhaust Technology
To generate as little exhaust backpressure as possible, downpipes with a larger pipe diameter, e.g. 76 mm, are required so that the turbo is relieved and less exhaust backpressure is generated. We also offer these with TÜV and with 200-cell or 100-cell sport catalytic converters.
To achieve a rich sound and so that enough exhaust gases can escape, we have various sports exhaust systems usually from Simons in Sweden with EC approval, meaning these do not need to be registered and can be used completely legally on public roads.
Intake
With upgrade turbochargers or with performance-enhanced engines, the original intake hoses tend to contract, which leads to power loss. Here we offer fabric-reinforced silicone hoses e.g. intake hoses or boost hoses that can withstand the power. To achieve greater airflow, sport air filters as well as larger intake manifolds provide optimal breathing. diverter valves also called pop-off or SUV are indispensable on the 1.8T; they must also be closed there, otherwise the mass airflow sensor lacks the air discharged into the atmosphere in its calculation. For this reason, open valves are not suitable for the 1.8T with the original injection system.
Power transmission
To transfer the power to the road, sport clutches are essential. We have complete kits with a single-mass flywheel, pressure plate, friction disc with organic lining and release bearing that are also roadworthy; sprung sintered metal discs are also suitable for the road, only unsprung ones are more recommended for motorsport.
Cooling
To get cool air into the engine, a larger intercooler kit or an upgrade intercooler is required, because cooler air is denser and contains more air mass, which in turn leads to more power. This is particularly noticeable in summer or during longer motorway journeys. For conversions with replacement turbochargers, different oil and water lines are also required.
Engine technology
So that the engine can withstand certain power levels, forged pistons are installed. We have had good experiences with JE-Pistons and Wiseco.
