Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufacturers to subject their turbos to several qualification tests, meaning you always receive a top-quality product. Among other things, a 1000-hour durability test is carried out on an engine in a Garrett Engineering laboratory, bearing load test, the maximum tolerance of the bearing system is checked as well as material fatigue, a vibration test is performed etc.

The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, precision balanced, and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series, which are mostly journal bearing. The GTX series differs from the standard GT in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades, which leads to more power and slightly better response. It is important that the ball-bearing turbochargers do not receive too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used in the oil feed. A ball bearing turbo responds about 400-500 rpm earlier than a journal bearing type.
