The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing mounted, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series which are mostly plain bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it has a special, larger impeller with more blades which leads to more power and slightly better response. It is important for the ball bearing turbochargers that they do not receive too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used for the oil supply. A ball bearing turbo responds approximately 400-500 rpm earlier than a plain bearing turbo.
