Description:

Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufacturers that subjects its turbos to multiple qualification tests, meaning you always get a top product. Among others, a 1000-hour durability test is carried out on an engine in a Garrett engineering laboratory, thrust bearing test, the maximum tolerance of the bearing system is checked as well as material fatigue, a vibration test is carried out, etc.

The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series, which are mostly slide bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades which leads to more power and slightly better response. It is important with ball bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9 mm bore is used for the oil supply. A ball bearing turbo responds about 400-500 rpm earlier than a slide bearing turbo.
