The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing mounted, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series, which are mostly plain bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it has a special, larger compressor wheel with several blades, which results in more power and slightly better response. It is important with the ball-bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. For this reason, an oil restrictor with a 0.9 mm bore is used for the oil inlet. In comparison, a ball-bearing turbo responds approx. 400-500 rpm earlier than a plain bearing turbo.
