The Garrett GT and GTX series are all double ball bearing, finely balanced and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older generation T series which are mainly plain bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that it features a special, larger compressor wheel with several blades which results in more power and slightly better throttle response. It is important with ball bearing turbochargers that they do not get too much oil pressure. Therefore, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used in the oil feed. A ball bearing turbo responds approx. 400-500 rpm earlier compared to a plain bearing turbo.
